Educational Programs

Mass Movement, Inc, offers in-school and after-school workshops and residencies through Young Audiences of Massachusetts with a focus on integrating dance in the classroom. In addition, we offer professional development for educators so that they can incorporate movement into their teaching practice.

Mass Movement is part of a community of educators that values arts in education and its capacity to enliven curriculum, foster creativity and create a positive learning experience.

We draw on the many forms of dance - cultural, social and artistic, to support and enhance classroom curriculum. Our programs incorporate multiple approaches to bringing dance to the world of education - from providing healthy physical activity to using dance and movement in improvisational, creative explorations that provide students with new insights and connections to their studies.

Movement can enhance:

Language arts – by exploring connections between movement and words, one inspiring the other and making them more powerful

Social sciences – by investigating and learning how cultures use movement in their traditional arts

Science – by experiencing principles and theories in action be it gravity, causality or knowledge of the solar system

Math – by looking at concepts of time and space in music and dance
